Course Objectives
In this course, you will learn how to:
(1) be more creative in generating ideas for writing,
(2) write summaries and reports,
(3) use concrete specific details in writing,
(4) and write narrative stories and descriptive essays.
Course Requirements and Grades
Nine assignments will be given during the semester. Both the e-version (to be sent to the class email address above) and the hard copy (to be handed in to me at the end of the class of the due date) of every exercise and essay assignment must be submitted to receive course credit. A late paper or exercise will be scored one letter grade lower and must be turned in within one week of the due date, or it will be recorded as a zero.
Assignments Due Dates
(1) Diagnostic test, 0%; Week 1
(2) Creative strategy report (group work), 10%; Week 4
(3) Open-ended story (group work), 10%; Week 6
(4) Prewriting exercise, 10%; Week 8
(5) Personal experience essay (narration) (10%) Week 10
(6) Revised essay (5%) Week 12
(7) Descriptive essay (on a person or place) (10%) Week 14
(8) Revised essay (5%) Week 16/17
(9) Final examination (20%) TBA
Writing assignments are weighted as noted above. Peer evaluations and self-evaluations (on the first drafts of the two essay assignments) will count 10%, and class participation (including exercises, discussions, group activities, etc), 10%.
